Washington, DC – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Jacinth Henry-Martin, has emphasized the critical role women play in strengthening the federation’s voice on the global stage.
“For St. Kitts and Nevis, as a small island developing state, our voice is amplified through multilateralism, and when that voice is carried by women, it reflects the strength, resilience, and aspirations of our entire society,” Ambassador Henry-Martin declared in remarks observing the International Day of Women in Multilateralism on January 26.
The Ambassador, who also serves as Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States, highlighted how multilateral platforms provide unique opportunities for women from small states to influence global policy discussions on peace, development, health, climate resilience, and equality.
Henry-Martin argued that women’s participation adds essential value to diplomatic forums through inclusive leadership and practical solutions. “Women bring inclusive leadership, lived experience, and practical solutions that strengthen consensus, legitimacy, and lasting outcomes,” she stated.
She noted that multilateral spaces are particularly powerful for women from small nations, offering forums to address issues of national importance while contributing insights on families, communities, and social realities.
“These spaces allow women to speak for ourselves, in the name of our countries, on the global stage,” the Ambassador emphasized, underscoring how women advance causes through experiential knowledge and passionate advocacy.
Her remarks reinforce St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to gender equality in diplomacy and highlight the strategic importance of women’s leadership in representing small island developing states internationally.
